§ 24-31. Organization; personnel; chief of police.

  • (a)

    The police department, headed by and under the command of the chief of police, who shall be under the general supervision and subject to the orders of the city manager, shall consist of the regular police force, the auxiliary police force and such other personnel as may from time to time be authorized by the council.

    (b)

    The city manager shall organize the police department in such a manner compatible with this article as he may deem proper or necessary for its efficient and economical operation and administration.

    (c)

    The chief of police, under the general supervision of the city manager, shall have charge of the police department and all personnel thereof. He shall assign such duties to the personnel of the department as he thinks best, and shall see that all persons faithfully perform their duty. The chief of police shall be responsible for the execution of the rules and regulations of the police department by all members of the department. The chief shall make reports and perform other duties as may be required by the city manager.
