§ 10-311. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Driver's permit means the permit authorizing the holder to drive a taxicab operated pursuant to an operator's license.

    Operator's license means the license authorizing the holder to engage in the business of operating a taxicab on the streets of the city and to points, not incorporated, within a radius of five miles of the city limits.

    Taxicab means any motor vehicle, seating nine or fewer passengers, operated upon any street or highway on call or demand, accepting or soliciting passengers indiscriminately for hire between such points along streets or highways as may be directed by the passengers being transported, and shall not include motor vehicle carriers as defined in G.S. 20-376 et seq.
